It's easy to judge a book by it's cover, but then you never get to meet the amazing characters within the book. Oscar wasn't alwasy treated the best by people he thought were family. So as a result he has trust issues with new people he meets, especially men. His deep bark ("the cover") tends to scare people when they walk past his kennel, and they keep walking past looking at the other dogs instead. Though if someone would give him a chance outside of the kennel, they would get to see his loving, playful, charsmatic side ("the story"). Oscar is a very smart boy that loves to please his people. He knows sit, paw, and down, and with more training he could definitely learn more. The last home Oscar lived in he lived with another medium size dog, a cat, and a ferrett. He loves to play rough with other dogs, and would need a dog friend that is rough and tumble like himself.
